Does having a plane ticket actually guarantee a seat on the plane? In theory, yes. In reality, not always. More passengers are learning what overbooking is — a common, legal, but controversial airline practice.

In the latest article by Maja Piotrowska for TVN24, dr hab. Krzysztof Koźmiński, prof. UW and Managing Partner of Jabłoński Koźmiński & Partners, provides expert commentary. He discusses not only the legal basis for denied boarding but also the actual scope of protection offered to passengers under the EU261 regulation, as well as possible ways to pursue further claims – including through civil law.

Did you know that:

  • compensation can amount to up to EUR 600?
  • a passenger who agrees to a “settlement” with the carrier loses the right to compensation?
  • being denied boarding gives rise to claims for compensation or damages?

We encourage you to read the entire material, available here.
